March 1st, 2023, has officially been proclaimed Bosnian-American Day in Washington, DC, by Mayor Muriel Bowser in recognition of BiH Independence Day. This recognition serves as a reminder of the strong ties between the two nations.
Washington D.C.’s Mayor Muriel Bowser wrote in her proclamation: “Whereas, the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina voted for independence on March 1, 1992, and March 1 is now recognized as Bosnia and Herzegovina’s day of independence, and whereas, this sovereign nation in Europe’s western Balkan Peninsula is comprised of many religions, ethnicities, and traditions and is devoted to observing fundamental multiethnic principles, and whereas, the Bosnian American community has enriched the Washington, DC, region with its art, culture, cuisine, commitment to education, and business development, and whereas, Bosnian Americans and residents of our nation’s capital have a shared commitment to the cherished values of democracy and self-determination.”
Health Fitness Revolution founder Samir Becic recognizes One BiH‘s valuable advocacy in promoting Bosnia and Herzegovina in the U.S. by helping actualize this proclamation. “I am glad to see that Bosnian Herzegovinan communities in the United States and around the world are doing immensely important work in strengthening BiH’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
