Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that $52 million in grants will support local food systems and organic agriculture.
The demand for organic and locally grown foods is rising fast but compared to the rest of the food industry, organic foods represent only $35 billion in annual sales. The $52 Million grant is meant to help local food systems better market themselves to corporations who would be interested in buying their fresh products and also for research on organic-farming methods.
Hopefully, this $52 million in grants will help make organic foods more available and make consumers more aware of organic foods rather than processed foods and products that have been pumped full of hormones.
