During a recent meeting, Samir Becic had the pleasure of sitting down with Camil Durakovic, Vice President of the Bosnia and Herzegovina entity of Republika Srpska. A young and dynamic politician, Durakovic has been making waves with his unwavering commitment to his constituents and his dedication to finding time to practice a healthy lifestyle.
But it’s not just his energetic presence that’s catching people’s attention. Durakovic works tirelessly to build bridges between different ethnic and religious groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He leaves the impression that he is a politician who cares not only about his voters but also all the people in the entity Republika Srpska regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation. His vision for a better future is one that’s based on cooperation and collaboration, not divisiveness.
Durakovic has a strong background in politics. He’s earned widespread support from all sides, thanks to his independent spirit and his work ethic. In fact, he was elected Mayor of Srebrenica in 2012 with the support of all pro-Bosnian parties, a testament to his ability to bring people together.
Fast forward to 2020, and Durakovic was elected as a member of the Srebrenica Municipal Assembly. And from April to September 2021, he served as the Speaker of the Srebrenica Municipal Assembly, continuing to make a positive impact on the local community. But Durakovic’s ambitions extended beyond Srebrenica. In 2022, he was elected Vice President of the Republic of Srpska, a remarkable achievement for an independent candidate without the support of any party in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It’s clear that Durakovic is a breath of fresh air in Bosnian politics. Another aspect that really sets him apart is his commitment to living a healthy lifestyle. He understands that to be an effective leader, you need to take care of yourself first. And he walks the walk, making time for exercise, practice Tae Kwon Do, and healthy eating despite his incredibly busy schedule.
In 2015, when Becic attended the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre with Bill Clinton, he had the honor of being hosted by Durakovic, who was mayor of Srebrenica at the time.
It’s clear that with politicians like Camil Durakovic in leadership positions, Bosnia and Herzegovina has a better future based on building bridges between different ethnic and religious groups and improving the overall economy of the country.
