In celebration of his 46th birthday on July 4th, Health Fitness Revolution founder Samir Becic is hiking 460 miles in Aspen, CO! He is hiking 10 miles for each year he’s been alive (10 x 46= 460 miles) with a 50lbs+ backpack- on rugged, steep terrain (up to 47% incline). Now he’s completed week 3 and has acclimated his Houston sea-level lungs to the altitude a bit more, but the fatigue from the accumulation of the mileage he’s doing is catching up to him. Click to read about his experiences Week 1, and Week 2. As he goes into week 4, he is behind a total of 53 miles in his weekly pace goal. Please go and cheer Samir on social media as he continues his extreme hiking!
Here is the Week 3 mileage tally:
- Monday: 9.2 miles
- Tuesday: 24 miles
- Wednesday: 17 miles
- Thursday: 6.5 miles
- Friday: 24 miles
- Saturday: 14 miles
- Sunday: Rest day
- Total for week 3: 95 miles
Last week, I finished 95 miles. 3-week Summary: 292 miles total instead of the 345 miles I had planned- so I am behind 53 miles. The plan for my resting HR was 46-47; in actuality, it is 55-56. Recovery is still 20% behind. The aftermath of my Dec ’21 COVID infection is apparent. pic.twitter.com/CU0fIqwRy3

As Houston’s Official “Fitness Czar”, Samir is doing this long hike in an effort to encourage and motivate Americans to be more active, walk, hike, and get outdoors. This type of fitness challenge around his birthdays is not new- in 2020, Samir was also in Aspen, Colorado celebrating his 44th birthday, and hiked 44 miles (for his 44 years on earth) over the course of 15 hours on July 4th in order to motivate Americans to be more active (and walk 1-2 miles a day). Spoiler alert: while he originally set out to do it over two days, he completed it in one, finishing in the middle of the night, in complete darkness! On that same trip, he hiked a total of 350 miles.
Tuesday, I completed Lost Man’s Trail a second time (approx 17 miles each time). This time I extended my hike along Independence Pass. Total for Tues: approx 24 miles. Caution-water is very high, a reason why many people turn around. The snow in some places is more than 4ft deep. pic.twitter.com/KJqRyBW4rL

Today, I’m hiking 24 miles on the ski slopes of Snowmass (Summit Trail, Rabbit Run, and Vista Trail)- I’ve already gotten some breathtaking views. pic.twitter.com/6ERYDdXO7D

Yesterday, was my third time hiking Lost Man’s Trail and attempted to reach the second lake but couldn’t due to high snow above 4ft. I got to 12,500ft elevation and clearly felt it with my Houston sea-level lungs :). Caution-high water, high snow; saw no-one else on my hikes. pic.twitter.com/xXcYIpAanh
