In a tweet shared largely without context on Sunday, Musk said his pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci. The tweet drew support from prominent conservatives such as right-wing Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, whose account was reinstated with Musk’s decision to end the platform’s COVID-19 misinformation policy last month.
Health experts like Dr. Peter Hotez, a vaccine scientist and virology professor, defended Fauci’s work at the forefront of U.S. pandemic mitigation efforts and asked Musk to remove (or, better yet, correct) his misleading tweet.
For the record: Dr. Fauci has done nothing wrong, except serve our nation. In the meantime, Mr. Musk should know that 200,000 Americans needlessly lost their lives from Covid due to this kind of antiscience rhetoric and disinformation. He continues by urging Musk to use his brilliant engineering mind to consider the fact that COVID-19 was unexpected, serious, and with a very rapid onset. “As a fellow immigrant, I admire your work. Only in America can an immigrant become a billionaire, own some of the largest companies in the world, positively impact society and boldly go where no man has gone before. You are proof that the American dream is fully alive!
“As an engineer, you know that in order to accomplish something, multiple trials are necessary. In the case of #COVID19, a novel virus with rapid onset, our lead scientists (including Dr. @PeterHotez, Dr. Fauci, etc…) did an incredible job figuring out how to protect humanity. In record time, they put procedures in place and developed a vaccine that saved hundreds of thousands of lives. In Dr. @PeterHotez [and Dr. Mario Bottazzi]’s case, his vaccine is not patented and can be manufactured by any pharmaceutical company in low and middle-income countries.
