Samir, for his part, has been busy, volunteering with the city of Houston for over 20 years, donating his time to make America’s 4th largest city healthier and fitter in any way he can. Becic’s story is one of inspiration and perseverance. He has continued to inspire Houstonians to take control of their health by creating several awe-inspiring fitness challenges, including living for 6 weeks at an obese weight, walking 2.87 miles with a 200lbs weighted vest, running 7 marathons in 8 weeks while wearing compressed weights equivalent to 73.5 pounds weighted vest, completing a 464-mile hike while wearing a 55lbs+ backpack, and now training to walk a full 3 miles while wearing a 200 lbs weighted vest! Becic has also made it clear that a specific plan for success is crucial for those dedicated to achieving their fitness goals.

Samir wants people to see that they can accomplish their goals with hard work and dedication. He works to set manageable examples for individuals who want to achieve big goals, but who may need more motivation. Since he knows that sometimes the work it will take can be overwhelming, he tries to make it seem less daunting by showing how even small accomplishments add up over time.

Samir was named to Houston Mayor Lee Brown’s fitness task force in 2002, and he has not stopped serving the city since. Since he was announced as Houston’s official “Fitness Czar” in 2018 by Mayor Sylvester Turner, he has dedicated himself for the past 4 years as a dedicated public servant, advising Mayor Turner and the city on public health, wellness, and programming. He has presented countless seminars throughout the greater Houston area, including to the homeless population, schools, city employees, and private sector employees. When the CDC announced that a staggering 42% of American adults are now obese, Samir channeled his frustration with this news by sending letters to politicians, school districts, and corporations. He has worked tirelessly to write powerful and motivating letters to the 500 largest school districts in America, and over 1000 politicians nationwide (including all 50 governors, the mayors of the 100 largest cities, etc) in an effort to initiate real change.

Becic’s bid for a seat on the President’s Council is no surprise to those familiar with his previous endeavors. The fitness guru has been making waves in the industry for decades and is known as a disruptive force who is always looking to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Men’s Health once named him a “Top 100 Fitness Trainer in America”, “#1 Fitness Trainer in America for Martial Arts”, and “Top 10 in Weight Loss”, cementing him as an industry leader seen as making a real change is people’s lives by helping them achieve their health and fitness goals. Becic has the reputation of being a trailblazer, and if he succeeds in getting on the Council it will serve as a testament to his drive and desire to innovate.

A man who has established himself as a leading expert on fitness and nutrition, Samir Becic is a unique candidate in that he is not only well-qualified to fill the position of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, but he also brings an intriguing background to the table. Samir will be an invaluable asset to the President’s Council because of his unparalleled track record as one of the nation’s top fitness experts.
