As a global, bilingual spokesperson for Witnesses to Hunger, Barbie Izquierdo has spoken at the White House under the Obama-Biden administration. She has been featured in prominent media outlets such as the Associated Press, CNN, the Washington Post, BBC World News, People Magazine, and has made appearances at conferences and podcasts. Being an Afro-Latina born and raised in North Philadelphia, Izquierdo has firsthand experience of the impacts of food insecurity and other social justice issues, which drives her advocacy work.
- Catalyst for Policy Change: Utilizing her own experiences, Izquierdo drives policy change and works to bring dignity and equity to nonprofit organizations and government entities. In recognition of her exceptional actions to end extreme poverty, Barbie Izquierdo was awarded the 2022 Citizen Prize by Global Citizen.
