Dr. Oluwaferanmi Oyedeji Okanlami is a passionate advocate for inclusive sports fitness. As a member of the President’s Council on Sports Fitness and Nutrition, he actively promotes physical activity and sports engagement for individuals of all abilities. Okanlami firmly believes that everyone, regardless of their physical limitations, should have equal opportunities to participate in sports and fitness activities.
- Multifaceted Expertise and Leadership: Dr. Oluwaferanmi Oyedeji Okanlami, known as Dr. O, holds various positions in academia and healthcare. He is an Assistant Professor at Michigan Medicine and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at UCLA. Additionally, he serves as the Director of Student Accessibility and Accommodation Services at the University of Michigan. Dr. O’s extensive experience and leadership span family medicine, physical medicine & rehabilitation, urology, and orthopaedic surgery.
- Personal Journey and Advocacy: Driven by personal experience, Dr. Okanlami is a passionate advocate for accessibility and inclusivity. After sustaining a spinal cord injury during his orthopaedic surgery residency, he gained firsthand insight into the challenges faced by individuals living with disabilities. As a proud wheelchair user, he has dedicated himself to disabusing the perception that disability equates to inability. Dr. O actively speaks on topics related to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion, shedding light on the need for inclusive healthcare systems and reasonable accommodations in higher education.
