Houston, we have our man of the month! For the month of October 2022, it is none other than Texas Tribune‘s CEO Evan Smith. Health Fitness Revolution is always proud to honor Texans doing a great job!
To say that Evan Smith is a busy man is an understatement. The CEO and editor-in-chief of the Texas Tribune has made it his mission to bring people together and build better communities through the power of conversation. And in the process, he’s built one of the most innovative and successful non-profit news outlets in America. He’s also a highly sought-after interviewer who travels the country talking to interesting people, and he brings those interviews to Texans through a series of live events throughout the year.
A fantastic interview was conducted by @evanasmit @TexasTribune, with the Secretary of Transportation @PeteButtigieg. An hour of non-stop thoughtful and analytical action filled with reason, intellectual humor, turbulent emotions about the future, and positivity that gives hope. pic.twitter.com/FrwCsQuS1B

Just off the heels of another successful TribFest (which our founder Samir Becic got invited to attend), Evan Smith moderated numerous panels that made national news. Texas Tribune’s signature annual TribFest event is three days packed with expert panels and insightful discussions on everything from education to health care and more. This year, there were more than 350 influential speakers, including former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy; Governors Gavin Newsom of California, Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas, Glenn Youngkin of Virginia; Former Governor of Ohio John Kasich, and Democratic Candidate for Governor of Texas in 2022 Beto O’Rourke.
Evan Smith’s bio is nothing short of impressive, he is the CEO and co-founder of The Texas Tribune, a pioneering nonprofit, nonpartisan digital news organization whose deep coverage of Texas politics and public policy can be found at its website, texastribune.org, in newspapers and on TV and radio stations across the state, and in the print and online editions of the Washington Post. Since its launch in 2009, the Tribune has won international acclaim and numerous honors including a Peabody Award, 13 national Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association, and three general excellence awards from the Online News Association.
Smith also hosts “Overheard with Evan Smith,” an award-winning weekly half-hour interview program that airs on PBS stations around the country. Previously he spent nearly 18 years at Texas Monthly, including eight years as the magazine’s editor and a year as its president and editor-in-chief.
As official Fitness Czar for the City of Houston as proclaimed by Mayor @SylvesterTurner I just proclaimed the trailblazing CEO of @TexasTribune @evanasmith not a day over 45 years old! I told him not to retire until the age of 100 because TX and American need people like him. 🙂 pic.twitter.com/r1AsxGaVre

HFR founder and Houston’s Official “Fitness Czar” Samir Becic recognizes how fortunate Texas is to have such a reasoned and intellectual voice at the helm of one of its major publications- he also proclaimed a trailblazing Smith as not a day over 45! Samir was equally impressed with the streamlined organization of the entire TribFest event “Texas Tribune’s #TribFest22 is superbly organized. The number of details that it takes to manage such a complex enterprise is infinite (metaphorically speaking). Great job, CEO Evan Smith and the Texas Tribune team on presenting TX in the best light. Evan, you can retire at the age of 100!”
