Samir Becic and HFR are bringing health and fitness to politics, and the media is taking notice.
Just last week, Politico dubbed our list of the Top 10 Fittest Senators 2016 their “List du Jour,” bringing attention to our exhaustively researched effort that recognizes top politicians who are spreading the message of fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
That article is just the latest in a long line of internationally recognized lists investigating politicians who live an active lifestyle and promote health and fitness. We were the first media outlet to rank world leaders and heads of state for living a healthy lifestyle, and we are building serious momentum with these lists!
Our unique approach is why CNN invited us to their “Politics on Tap With Chris Cuomo” event at the end of February. The CNN event offered media figures a chance to congregate and talk about the 2016 presidential election on the eve of the UH Debate that took place on February 25th.
HFR generated a lot of buzz prior to the debate with our articles pitting the Democratic and Republican candidates against each other on issues related to health and fitness. Samir also wrote a widely reported open letter to the presidential candidates asking them to address the obesity epidemic in the United States.
Samir and his team met the CNN staff and other members of the national media at the event to enjoy some good food and political discussion.
Samir congratulated Chris Cuomo on being one of the fittest anchors in American media, and the two took a minute to discuss boxing. Samir boxed in his earlier years and Chris’s brother Andrew, who is governor of New York, is a famed boxing talent. Among other things, Andrew Cuomo’s boxing talent landed him on our 2014 list of “Top 10 Fittest Governors in America.”
Samir also had a great conversation with Sam Feist, CNN’s Washington bureau chief about our fitness ranking of presidential candidates.
We are glad our mission to emphasize the bond between politics and fitness is gaining traction. Our organization is deeply committed to the belief that politicians can work for the health and well being of the nation. Until the politicians listen up we will continue to raise awareness on this issue, and are thankful to those publicizing our results and spreading the message.
