In case you hadn’t heard yet, Houston is one of the North American cities in the running to be a host city for the World Cup 2026! As the President of the Houston 2026 World Cup Bid Committee, the man leading the charge on making it happen is none other than soccer management legend Chris Canetti, whose experience in the industry is nothing short of impressive:
- Canetti spent 19 seasons as an MLS club executive in New York and Houston.
- Joined the Dynamo in its inaugural season of 2006 as the team’s Chief Operating Officer and was promoted to President in 2010.
- Was with the Houston Dynamo for 13 years and served as club President for 8 years.
- Upon stepping down in October 2018, he was the longest tenured club President in MLS.
- With the Dynamo, he was part of eight MLS playoff appearances, including trips to seven Conference Finals and four MLS Cup Finals.
- Was a part of three championships, including two MLS Cup titles and one U.S. Open Cup title.
- Was also the President of the Houston Dash, the professional women’s team.
- Led the effort to bring women’s professional soccer to the city in 2014 with the addition of the Houston Dash to the National Women’s Soccer League.
- Oversaw the development and opening of BBVA Compass Stadium and played a lead role in bringing Manchester United to play in the 2010 MLS All-Star game at Reliant Stadium (now NRG).
- Canetti has built strong relationships during his tenure in leadership, and is well-respected within the industry.
