At the helm of this remarkable organization is Laura Ward, the dynamic and dedicated President & CEO. Under her leadership, HCC has raised over $120 million and positively impacted the lives of millions of children. Growing up in rural Crowley, Louisiana, Laura witnessed firsthand the struggles of poverty, which fueled her passion for helping children in need. Her tireless efforts and innovative programs have earned her numerous accolades, including induction into the Greater Houston Women’s Hall of Fame.   • Back2School: Heading back to school is a big moment for every child, but not everyone has the tools to succeed. Every year, Houston Children’s Charity steps up by giving over 40,000 students the supplies they need to feel prepared and confident in the classroom.
  • A Better Night’s Sleep: Many kids don’t have a proper bed to sleep in—a basic need for healthy growth and well-being. This program provides beds and bedding, giving kids a safe and comfortable place to rest.
  • Christmas Toy Distribution: For children in need, the holidays can be a challenging time. Through this program, Houston Children’s Charity spreads joy by delivering over 80,000 toys each season, ensuring these kids experience the magic of the holidays.

His influence and generosity were celebrated when he was named “Man of the Year” at Houston Children’s Charity’s 20th anniversary. This year’s gala for Houston Children’s Charity was also a resounding success, raising an impressive $6.2 million. The event, held on October 19, 2024, at The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown, featured a black-tie optional evening with a special performance by the band Chicago. The funds raised will significantly aid the charity’s mission to improve the quality of life for Greater Houston’s underprivileged, abused, and disabled children. The gala not only surpassed previous fundraising records but also highlighted the community’s strong support for the charity’s vital programs.

The evening was graced by the presence of several celebrities, including 50 Cent, who made a surprise appearance and donated two bottles of his signature champagne, Le Chemin Du Roi Brut, raising an additional $500,000. NFL Hall of Famer Andre Johnson also attended, adding to the star-studded event. The evening was filled with excitement and generosity, with notable attendees such as Tilman Fertitta, Laura Ward, and Houston Mayor John Whitmire.

The biggest surprise of the night came when longtime supporters Jana and Richard Fant joined Laura Ward on stage to announce their purchase of 30 vans for the Chariots for Children program. This incredible contribution will significantly enhance the mobility and independence of children with disabilities in the Greater Houston area. The event’s success is a testament to the dedication and support of the community in making a difference for children in need.
