The CNN Hero Awards, since their inception in 2007, have become a landmark celebration of philanthropy, standing as one of the few high-profile media-driven recognitions that consistently highlight grassroots efforts across the globe. This annual event brings attention to pressing social challenges while emphasizing the idea that change can stem from anyone, regardless of their resources or background. By spotlighting everyday people who champion transformative causes, CNN underscores the principle that compassion and a dedication to service can have ripple effects that extend beyond borders.
CNN’s dedication to this mission involves a rigorous selection process. Each year, a diverse panel of judges reviews thousands of nominations from across the world, evaluating initiatives that address significant community needs with innovative, sustainable solutions. Recognizing individuals tackling various issues—from expanding access to education and healthcare to addressing environmental and social justice concerns—CNN ensures that the award maintains a global scope, with recipients from varied backgrounds and fields. The award program is comprehensive and inclusive, providing visibility to issues that may not always make headlines yet have a profound impact on individuals and communities.
CNN’s Hero Award finalists are individuals who make a significant impact in their communities, bringing attention to diverse and vital causes.
