Houston, the 4th largest city in America, frequently topping it’s Fattest list, is about to choose a new mayor. This fall, several candidates will be campaigning for your votes. The Health Fitness Revolution team and I recently attended the Mayoral Health Forum hosted at Rice University and co-hosted by Shape Up Houston, so that we would find out where these candidates stand on improving the health and fitness of this city.
Disclaimer: Health Fitness Revolution does not support any specific candidate for the Mayor of Houston but we support healthy lifestyle!
With Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia. I wish more law officers could be as fit as Garcia. This would definitely decrease criminal activity rates in Houston. Thank you, Sheriff, for encouraging a healthy lifestyle in law enforcement.
With state representative Sylvester Turner. Turner wants to improve having a healthy lifestyle in in Houston, and Health Fitness Revolution supports everyone who supports living a healthy and fit lifestyle. For you, Mr. Turner, keep fighting so physical fitness can be more accessible to Houstonians!
Marty McVey, made me laugh! After he enjoyed my performance of “flying push-ups in cowboy boots,” he said, only in Texas would you find something like this. “I wish more cowboys would perform push-ups in cowboy boots would make an excellent slogan!
Bell said he’s settling with walking exercises instead of running due to age. But you’re only as old as you feel, Chris, so keep running – but once you get tired, start walking!
Candidate Bill King stood against many of the health proposals. Yet, he keeps himself in shape. He was all about fighting crime. My suggestion to you, Bill King, is if your citizens are fit, crime rates will go down; every criminal will think twice before attacking a very fit person – fighting crime with fitness!
Steven Costello used to be obese and became healthy through competing in triathlons and marathons. I personally would like him to be more outspoken and present some plans for improving the health of Houston.
I got a surprise visit in my office from Houston Mayoral Candidate Victoria Lane. She is very supportive of healthy lifestyle.
