When it comes to community philanthropy, Alan Helfman does it all- he donates resources, time, and helps fundraise for countless causes. A native Houstonian, he supports numerous philanthropic efforts throughout the city, but one of his obvious passions includes the brave men and women of the Houston Police Department. When the COVID pandemic first shut down the world in 2020, Helfman secured masks and donated 14850 KN95 masks worth $100,000 to HPD, HFD, and other law enforcement agencies.

Alan doesn’t just show up for philanthropy during a crisis, over the years, he’s organized over 100 fundraisers and given over $1 million of his own money to the Houston Police Department (HPD). “My passion for the HPD is helping the widows pay the bills and stay in their homes, helping the guys who are hurt or sick—it’s really good money.”

It’s no wonder that the Houston Police Department Awarded him with their first “Lifetime Achievement Award” presented to him by Houston Police Chief Troy Finner and Assistant Chief Satterwhite.

HFR founder Samir Becic congratulated his friend on social media and noted how deserving he was of the award. “Alan Helfman is a great example of a businessman who is giving back to the community and using his success to help others. I have known him for many years, and he is one of the most respected businessmen and philanthropists in Texas. His son Blake Helfman is following in his father’s footsteps and is establishing himself as part of the next generation of Houston leadership.”

We spent some time catching up with Alan Helfman at Helfman River Oaks Chrysler Jeep Dodge where he took us down the hallway that leads to his office, with award after award for recognizing his generous spirit. The countless humanitarian awards and plaques represent the many philanthropic efforts Mr. Helfman has been a part of over the years; further highlighting his heart and dedication to the betterment of our community.
